Woman forehead wrinkles before and after treatment

Botox® is now the most popular non-surgical cosmetic treatment throughout the world and is certainly the most popular treatment I administer in my Taunton clinic in Somerset.

How does Botox® work?

Botox® is a safe non-surgical treatment which softens facial lines and wrinkles to create a more youthful appearance. It is a prescription only drug and should only be administered by individuals with the appropriate training and qualifications.

It works by temporarily blocking communication between the nerve and muscle and results in softening of facial lines. Areas treated include the glabella (between your eyebrow), forehead and crows feet. Lower facial areas including the neck can also be treated.

What does Botox® treatment involve?

Before any treatment is administered at Somerset Cosmetic Clinic I always carefully consult with you and a detailed medical history is taken to establish that there are no contraindications to treatment.

Pregnant and breastfeeding women cannot have the treatment and those with certain illnesses and on certain medications are also excluded. After a careful assessment the treatment itself involves the injection of minute amounts of Botox® in the specific anatomical regions. The injections are almost painless. Treatment takes approximately 15 minutes.

Are there any side effects to using Botox®?

Common side effects include mild redness and swelling, though these will settle after a few hours. Occasionally bruising occurs. Headaches have been reported.

How soon will I notice any difference due to Botox®?

The effects of Botox® are seen from 3 days after treatment and last on average 3-4 months. After this time a re-treatment will be necessary to maintain the effects.

How much will it cost?
